Gauchers Disease Conference in Memphis USA

A three day conference on Gauchers disease took place in Memphis, Tennessee on 10-12 October 1998, writes Susan Lewis. Over 50 delegates attended from all over America as well as Italy and the UK.

Talks were given on Medical Management of Gauchers Disease by Dr Pram Mistry, My Aching Bones and Fosamax by Dr Gregory Grabowski, Quality of Life/Hidden Issues by Dr Joan Esplin and Gene Therapy: The Next Frontier by Dr Pamela Becker.

The Gauchers Conference was part of a larger conference held by NORD (National Organisation for Rare Diseases) and was organised by the Gaucher Conference Committee, an independent organisation of people with Gauchers disease, led by Sam Shponka and Mary Nathan who introduced many of the talks and was the first Executive Director of the US National Gaucher Foundation in 1983.

The Gauchers Conference was sponsored by the National Gaucher Foundation.
